The mythology of leadership

While leadership is much desired in the contemporary world, what exactly is it? This is an important question to ask, especially so for those studying educational leadership, management and administration.

Leadership has not always been the label of choice. As a field of study we have shifted from Educational Administration through to Educational Management and now Educational Leadership.

Are the distinctions between leadership, management and administration significant? Who decides what is and is not leadership? When did we suddenly need leadership to solve organizational problems?

In this chapter I engage with the mythology of leadership to argue that rather than the solution to managerialism it is the Trojan Horse of managerialism. A creation generative of the managerialist project and implictly advancing it.
